Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY: The Cosmetologist provides hair and beauty services to the Seniors/residents/clients (hereinafter, "Seniors/clients") of the Tabitha living communities. Services will be provided in a professional and sensitive manner that promotes the self-esteem and dignity of all Seniors/clients. This position embraces all components of the job, fostering an environment that allows Tabitha to provide optimum care to Tabitha's Seniors/clients. As a result, the TEAMember supports Tabitha goals related to dignity, respect, independence, competence, autonomy, personal comfort, safety and security of Seniors/clients. In addition, the TEAMember contributes to the success of Tabitha through ongoing collaboration with, coworkers, management, volunteers and others in the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Schedules and performs hair and beauty services for the Seniors/clients of Tabitha's living communities.
  2. Works professionally with Seniors/clients and TEAMembers to achieve efficient day-to-day salon operations, Senior/clients services and customer relations.
  3. Adheres to the rules and regulations of the Nebraska Department of Health and Bureau of Examining Boards for Cosmetologists.
  4. Records all sales in the Beauty Salon by using the charge ticket system, designating charge to statement, charge to guest account or by cash paid at time of service.
  5. Collaborates with the accounting department to assure accurate and timely billing for goods and services.
  6. Recommends charges for services and administers as directed by the administrator.
  7. Reviews rates annually and notifies Seniors/clients of changes at least 30 days in advance of change.
  8. Sets and maintains inventory in the beauty salon.
  9. Assists the Beauty Salon Manage with the annual budget and adjusts accordingly to meet fiscal goals.
  10. Keeps the premises and equipment safe, neat, clean and sanitary. Assures equipment and supply inventories are adequate and safe.
  11. Provides service to room-bound and bed-bound clients, as needed.
  12. Works with Volunteer department to assure adequate number of beauty shop volunteers are available to assist with transporting residents to and from the beauty shop.
  13. Works with the Nursing department to assure appointments do not conflict or impinge upon the residents' medical care.
  14. Assists Beauty Salon Manager with the development and implementation of salon policies and procedures.
  15. Investigates and resolves client problems as directed and/or as necessary.
  16. Communicates effectively with families, staff, and support services to achieve client goals and meet service expectations.
  17. Willingly takes on additional duties and/or assignments, assisting with projects and responding to requests as assigned or as necessary.

Qualifications
COMMUNICATION: Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language as well as terminology and jargon specific to the job. Sufficient fluency to be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, provide instructions to others, read and understand policies, procedures or other similar documentation, interact successfully with elders/clients/caregivers, hold a conversation, conduct or participate in meetings, compose professional e-mails or other written communication, prepare legible, accurate and thorough documentation as required by the job and effectively interact with coworkers, customers, vendors, volunteers, managers and family members. Ability to recognize and interpret non-verbal cues. Ability to respond calmly and clearly to emergencies and emotional situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to gain access to the work area and then safely perform the duties of the job while utilizing standard and specialized equipment, including but not limited to the equipment described below. Ability to move about the work area and walk long distances within the living community buildings. Vision and hearing within normal limits (with or without correction) Must have unrestricted lift/push/pull ability and pass a 25 - pound physical exam demonstrating strength and agility prior to employment and from time to time thereafter at Tabitha's discretion.
EQUIPMENT USAGE: Standard and specialized equipment including hair dryer, curling iron, calculator, computer, photocopier, scanner and telephone.
AGE REQUIREMENT: At least age 18.
EDUCATION: Graduate of approved cosmetology school, required
EXPERIENCE: Two years of Cosmetology experience, preferred. Experience in Senior hair and beauty services, preferred.
CREDENTIALS: Current State of Nebraska Cosmetology license in good standing, required. Current State of Nebraska Cosmetology license, in good standing. Valid Nebraska Driver's license (unless otherwise allowed by law) and a good driving record required. Must possess auto insurance at or above Nebraska statutory requirements. Must maintain current licensure or certification, as appropriate. Must meet Tabitha's vaccination requirements.
