REPORTS TO: SHIFT SUPERVISOR AND/OR DIRECTOR OF SAFETY AND SECURITY
Position Summary
The Security Officer serves Southeastern University by providing a safe environment for the
campus community.
Relationships
1. The Director of Safety & Security - The Security Officer is directly responsible to either
the Shift Supervisor, the Director of Safety & Security, or PCSO personnel working at the
direction of the Director of Safety & Security. The Security Officer works with either the
Shift Supervisor or the Director of Safety & Security and his/her designees to create a safe
environment for the campus community of Southeastern University.
2. Campus Community - The Security Officer interfaces with Staff, Faculty, Students,
Vendors, and Visitors to provide a safe environment for the campus.
3. Local Agencies - The Security Officer maintains a positive liaison with all local response
and support agencies that arrive on campus; i.e., fire department, law enforcement.
4. Security Team - Partners with the other department Security Officers and shifts to
effectively and continually maintain the safety of the campus on a 24/7/365 basis.
Essential Functions
1. Good observational skills of persons, activities, and materials on the campus and
surrounding campus.
2. Able to provide a clear description of persons (height, weight, hair color, gender,
clothing, etc.) vehicles, and equipment.
3. High degree of commitment for the safety of Staff, Faculty, Students, Vendors, and
Visitors.
4. Interacts with all personnel in a professional and courteous manner.
5. Maintain a constant alertness to surroundings and situations.
6. Able to handle crisis situations using good judgment and calm temperament.
7. Gather the facts necessary to complete written reports.
8. Performs all shift duties assigned by supervisor, and/or director or his/her designees.
9. Dress in full uniform, and maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
10. Comply with Safety and Security Policies and Procedures and the Southeastern University
Staff Handbook.
11. Must perform all duties during inclement weather at scheduled and non-scheduled
periods, if required, for storms such as hurricanes, etc.
12. Complete required training: i.e., Security D License, CPR, First Aid, etc., when offered.
13. Safely operate Southeastern University vehicles (golf carts and/or shuttle bus).
Physical Requirements
a. Able to stand for extended periods of time.
b. Able to walk the campus area.
c. Able to lift 30-45 lbs.
d. Able to drag an unconscious person to safety.
e. Able to climb stairs.
On the Job Training Time
1. Ninety day training (probation) period to learn and perform the duties of a safety and
Security Officer.
2. Six months to perform all essential duties with minimum supervision.
Qualifications
1. High School Graduate.
2. Security Class D License.
Note: License needs to be obtained during first three months of employment if not
licensed at the time of employment.
3. Valid Florida Driver's License.
