POSITION SCOPE:
The Mary Campbell Center is first, last, and always, home to 68 residents. Together, staff ensures services are delivered with a high degree of quality, in a homelike environment where residents live with respect, personal dignity, and independence to the fullness of their abilities. The Security Guard assures coverage at the main entrance and completes rounds of the facility to make certain building is secure and doors locked. The Security Guard must work reliably, effectively, efficiently, and with respect for residents, staff, families, volunteers, professional consultants, and the physical environment of the Center.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
The Security Guard at the Mary Campbell Center must: 1) be a good person of high character who consistently works with a positive attitude and demonstrates compassion and understanding for residents with varying degrees of disability; 2) have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and valid driver's license (preferred); 3) have the ability to read, write and follow verbal instructions; 4) demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; 5) demonstrate the ability to co-operate with other personnel; 6) demonstrate level-headedness and calm during emergencies 7) ability to make rounds of the building and lock doors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Secures building; assures all entrances are locked before 7:00 p.m.
- Completion of rounds; makes all rounds at least twice per shift using the Security Guard tour system. Fluctuate hours of rounds so as not to establish a pattern. Must carry a flashlight at all times. Checks all doors. Checks front parking lot occasionally for signs of loiterers and/or vandalism. Remains alert for potential safety hazards. Informs Nurse Supervisor of any corrections needed. Documents completion of rounds.
- In the event of fire or other disaster; is familiar with MCC fire and disaster procedures. Can name location of alarm boxes and extinguishers. Follows direction of Nurse Supervisor in an emergency.
- Receives visitors; escorts visitors or staff to cars if requested. Stations self at front entrance when not on rounds. Requests all visitors to sign in and obtain appropriate identification badge. Escorts visitors from building if appropriate.
- Answers telephone; channel calls to appropriate staff.
- Reports any unusual occurrences to Nurse Supervisor on duty.
- Completes all mandatory in-services and attends staff meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
