We're looking for a Security Engineer to work collaboratively with Office of Information Technology (OIT) teams and University departments to design and implement information security systems and processes, provide tier 2 operational support, and investigate security incidents.

The Security Engineer:
- Selects, maintains, and optimizes information security services and tools with an emphasis on cloud (AWS), network, and endpoint security
- Provides the means for the detection of and timely response to security threats
- Enhances the security of the university by contributing technical expertise on secure system implementation
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new security systems
- Respond to and investigate security alerts, notifications, and incidents; threat hunting
- Assess security controls and participate in vendor risk assessments
- AWS security group design, review and remediate Trusted Advisor alerts
- Develop security standards, processes, and playbooks
- Create and maintain metrics that measure the effectiveness of security monitoring and detection
- Support eDiscovery efforts
- Provide security consulting services and participate in IT projects

Minimum Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in a technical information technology role (e.g. System Administration, Developer)
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP stack
- Basic understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM) technologies
- Familiarity with Operating systems Windows/Linux/MacOS
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrates Familiarity with AWS or other IAAS provider platforms
- Experience managing data exchange using APIs
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as AWS Cloud Formation, YAML, Perl, Python, or Powershell
- Understanding of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems
- Knowledge of basic Firewall operations
