The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for: Seasonal Research Analyst II - Plans Archives Assistant.

Seasonal positions may be subject to the recall process and will be filled in accordance with collective bargaining agreements; positions not filled using this process will be interviewed for.
Interviews will be conducted at the ending of the posting period. Successful candidates may be required to start immediately.
Duties: Under supervision of the Plans Archivist and Assistant Plans Archivist, the seasonal employee will help arrange and describe engineering and architectural drawings of Massachusetts parks' buildings, landscapes, parkways, bridges, recreational facilities, and watershed resources dating from the 1890s to the present. This work is part of a comprehensive scanning project, already underway, for the DCR's plans collections statewide.
- Process, organize into sets, and folder large-format architectural and engineering drawings.
- Identify drawings that are ready for scanning by an outside vendor and separate out drawings that will need conservation work before scanning.
- Compare like plans, identify best copies, and set aside duplicates for recycling.
- Catalog drawings by inputting data into a spreadsheet.
- Perform quality control checks on cataloging data and digital files.
- Help prepare drawings to be sent out for scanning or conservation treatment.
- Help to create an efficient organizational arrangement of plans cabinets and boxed plan sets before transfer to the Massachusetts State Archives.
- Assist with reference requests as needed.
- Supervise interns, as needed
- Follow the spirit of the Society of American Archivists Code of Ethics and adhere to the Records Conservation Board’s Massachusetts Statewide Records Retention Schedule.
- Other duties as requested.
- Familiarity and experience with library science methodologies and practices
- Experience working with historic plans and documents.
- Ability to handle fragile or oversized materials with care.
- Excellent typing skills and experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong attention to detail.
