Summary
Provide and maintain a safe environment in and around the pool and pool area. Prevent and respond to emergencies. Manage daily operations of a swimming pool when the manager is not present.
Essential Functions
- Patrol the pool and pool area. Oversee the entire pool area in order to maintain a safe environment;
- Keep the pool and pool area clean by checking chemical levels in the pool and removing objects in or around the pool area which may cause danger;
- Oversees the lifeguard staff that procedure and daily tasks are completed;
- Perform and administer first aid and CPR when required;
- Assists in implementation of Emergency Action Plans;
- Manage daily operations of the pool in absence of the manager;
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion of the tenth grade and the following:
Physical Exam Required
Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire. American Red Cross certified in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding. These certifications must be obtained prior to start of work.
Preferred: 3 months experience as a life guard.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Water chemistry and facilities management;
- Principles of supervision and management.
Ability to:
- Supervise the work of lifeguards in absence of pool manager;
- Communicate effectively with others;
- Oversee a pool area in order to maintain safety;
- Use a rescue tube, backboard, and a whistle.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
- Frequently stand during shift;
- Occasionally walk and bend during shift;
- Frequently climb stairs in order to reach the high stand;
- Frequently push and pull objects in order to clean pool and rescue victims;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward and at the waist and partially flexing of knees;
- Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
- Place arms above, at or below shoulder height.
Part-time employees who have at least six (6) months continuous employment may be paid for all holidays except the Veterans Day floating holiday. Part-time employees are not eligible for the Veteran's Day floating holiday because City offices are not closed on that day. The number of hours granted these employees as holiday pay is based on the average number of hours normally worked in a day.
