Summary
The Seasonal Recreation Intern provides leadership and direction to the seasonal recreation staff along with maintaining daily staff logistics and management, following through with curriculum expectations, and ensuring supplies and equipment are available to staff.
This position is seasonal and works under the readily available supervision of the recreation supervisor.
The seasonal recreation intern manages recreation program offerings including program planning, logistics, marketing and customer service, as well as development of projects, games, stories, and activities.
The position supervises assigned programs and staff and oversees activities to ensure they meet specific characteristics of age, group, and ability level.
This internship will provide a comprehensive and meaningful experience that provides the student an opportunity to learn through real situations. This position has continuous public contact requiring tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Programming experience through the coordination, supervision, and evaluation of summer youth programs - including T-ball, Soccer, Day Camps, Special Events, and Trips.
- Communication skills by providing program information to seasonal staff, supervisor(s), and office support staff.
- Public Relations skills through building and maintaining positive, cooperative relationships within and around the community.
- Leadership skills by providing on-sight supervision of staff, program promotion, and parent contact.
- Financial Management skills by assisting in preparing and monitoring the department budget.
- Professional Development by discovering ways to become more proficient and confident
- Develop and maintain relationships with other city departments.
- Experience working with various age groups in a variety of programs - preschool, youth, teen & senior populations.
- Employee management and training skills.

Qualifications
- Must be current student needing an internship to complete Bachelor's or Master's degree in recreation/leisure service or a related field at an accredited college, university or technical school.
- Good communications skills both oral and written.
