Summary
Provide daily supervision for a work crew of eight to ten (8-10) youth workers ages 14 - 18. Collaborate and work outside with work group to maintain and improve Minneapolis parks. Responsible for mentoring teenagers in a first-job experience and work alongside them using tools to accomplish tasks as assigned. Position is temporary, from mid-June through mid/late August 2024. Must be available to work Monday through Friday (7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. alternating Fridays). Intermittent hours may be available beginning in March through May for recruitment and hiring events.

What You'll Do
  • Engage, mentor, and interact with youth to support positive work environment.
  • Instruct and work alongside youth to perform labor tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Outdoor tasks include but are not limited to raking, weeding, watering, pruning, digging, mowing, mulching.
  • Manage youth timesheets and prepare bi-weekly youth payroll and performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate closely with MPRB staff to efficiently manage youth and park maintenance tasks.
  • Follow directions, complete assignments, and meet deadlines.
  • Engage with and provide effective leadership to youth from diverse cultural backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • Serve as a positive role model with the ability to respond in a positive manner.
  • Transport MPRB equipment and vehicles to different sites throughout Minneapolis.
  • Clearly communicate to foster collaboration.
  • Develop working relationships with all Teen Teamworks staff.

What To Bring
Need to Have:
Experience working directly with teenagers or young adults in a professional capacity: Minimum three (3) years
Valid Driver's License and safe driving record
Nice to Have:
Multilingual preferred
CDL school bus endorsement preferred

The incumbent may be required to traverse on rough, uneven terrain, as well as wet and slippery surfaces and to ascend and descend ladders to access work areas.
