In this position, you will perform a variety of maintenance duties in support of Colorado Springs Airport with Snow Removal as your primary responsibility.
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).
Anticipated dates of employment are from October through April. Work schedule will include a minimum of twenty hours per week, Sunday - Saturday, dependent upon snowstorms. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.
Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
- Operation of motorized Snow Removal equipment upon completing required operational training
- Flexible availability each time it snows
- Removing snow in designated locations, and disposing of it appropriately
- Participating in maintaining a safe and secure work environment for employees and guests by adhering to risk management and safety policies and guidelines
- Reporting all safety issues or concerns to the appropriate Supervisor
- Maintain and care for provided equipment & tools
- During non-Snow Removal days, assist with:
- Equipment minor maintenance such as washing, lubing, and building broom cores
- Complete work orders and maintenance tasks ensuring compliance with City policies, procedures, public safety standards, and aesthetic guidelines
- Perform field inspections checking for wind damage and safety issues
- Assists in the documentation of all scheduled/unscheduled work performed
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
- Ability to operate/ use power tools, hand tools, and precision tools safely
- Ability to operate a variety of heavy/light or specialized equipment
- Ability to do physical work, stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive motions
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to follow directions and implement tasks with little to no supervision
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to operate two-way radios
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
- Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
- Experience working in an outdoor setting, mechanical, and physical work history
- Experience with Snow Removal procedures
This position requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods, work around moving vehicles and wildlife, stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
