Summary of Duties
Pay Ranges:
Maintenance Worker I: $22.85-$30.85 per hour
Maintenance Worker II: $24.61-$34.46 per hour
Maintenance Worker III: $27.08-$37.91 per hour
  • Inspects and/or repairs, streets, drainage systems, irrigation systems, parks, and sewer system at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the various systems are functioning properly.
  • Operates trucks and snowplow equipment of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand.
  • Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the sewer, street, and parks department.
  • Performs routine inspection, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor. Ensures the proper maintenance of tools by cleaning and checking tools after use.
  • Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, excavation, mowing, seeding, fertilizing, sewer manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, pipe placement, and backfilling.
  • Assists in the training of seasonal staff or junior level employees, as assigned, to increase their skills in the maintenance, construction and repair of sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and equipment operations.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, including dump truck, road grader, and backhoe/loader.
  • Performs set-up and take-down for Town Special Events
  • Assists with facility maintenance needs and performs duties of building attendant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Level II:
Perform all Maintenance I job duties competently, and successfully complete specialized training in the following areas:
  • Irrigation
  • Turf management, and
  • Heavy equipment operation

In addition, the Maintenance Worker II must attain the certifications stated below.
  • Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS)
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)
  • Colorado Wastewater Operator Class D/I
  • CDOT Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor Certification (TECS)

Level III:
Perform all Maintenance Worker II job duties proficiently, with the ability to train, supervise, and mentor other Maintenance Workers.
In addition, the Maintenance Worker III must attain the certification stated below.
  • Qualified Supervisor Pesticide Applicators License

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Level I must have six (6) months of experience in a laboring, equipment, operations, or a related field.
  • Level II must have two (2) years of experience at Level I and the ability to operate all Town equipment relating to construction, maintenance, or repair.
  • Level III must have four (4) years of experience at Level I/II and proficient knowledge to operate and train employees to use Town equipment relating to construction, maintenance, or repair.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (Level I must obtain within 6 months of hire date).
  • Flaggers certificate within 6 months of hire date.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
  • Knowledge of Town's layout and locations.
  • Skill in operation of maintenance and construction tools, such as, dump trucks, snowplows, pickup trucks, utility trucks; tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps, welders, mowers, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radios, phones, and trenchers.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and software, including personal computers and associated office email, word processing, and spreadsheet software, phones, fax, and copy machines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to work on-call as required.

Physical Demands:
  • Physically demanding work requiring the ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally with or without assistance.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, kneeling, stooping, squatting, walking, and standing.
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate light power equipment and heavy equipment.
  • Vision for reading, recording, and interpreting information.
  • Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.

Work Environment:
  • Essential duties are performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to the elements.
  • Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, walking on uneven surfaces, dust, chemicals, gases, noise, vibration, local travel, and work in traffic.

Equipment Used:
  • Frequent use of light and heavy power equipment including snowplow and maintenance equipment of varying sizes and weights.

The Town of Mead offers a comprehensive benefit package and pays a major portion of the employee premium to make these benefits more affordable for our employees. Coverage begins on the 1st of the month following the date of hire, unless otherwise noted. Full time employees may participate in the following benefits:
Insurance:
The Town of Mead's medical, vision, dental, and life insurance provider is Colorado Employer Benefit Trust (CEBT). The town pays 100% of employee coverage and 50% of employee's covered dependents for the least expensive plan.
Medical: Employees may choose to enroll in one of following medical plan options which have a broad network of doctors, hospitals and health providers:
• Kaiser Permanente HMO 45 plan
• CEBT PPO 4 plan (UMR A UnitedHealthcare Company)
• Medical Hospital Reimbursement Plan
Dental: A comprehensive dental program is available that provides access to a broad network of dental providers. Coverage is through Delta Dental.
Vision: Employees that choose to enroll in our CEBT vision plan may take advantage of benefits that include coverage towards contacts and glasses.
Life and Dependent Life: The Town of Mead provides basic life coverage up to $50,000 for employees who are regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Additional coverage may be purchased through a voluntary life insurance program.
Short Term / Long Term Disability *: The Town's short-term and long-term disability coverage is provided by The Hartford Group. Premium costs for employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week is paid for 100% by the Town. Long-term disability coverage is effective the first month following 60 days of employment.
*LTD does not apply to Police due to FPPA benefits.
Spending Accounts:
The Town offers a Section 125 Flexible Spending Account through Alerus. The Town matches medical account contributions up to $500/year for eligible employees.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA): Employees have the option to contribute to their FSA which can be used to pay for qualifying medical, dental and vision expenses.
Dependent Care FSA: Dependent care FSA allows for reimbursement of dependent childcare or elder day care expenses on a tax favored basis.
Retirement Benefits:
The Town offers a 457 defined contribution plan through Nationwide. The Town matches up to 5% of an employee's pay. Commissioned police officers are not eligible for the Town match. For 2024, the maximum contribution (employee and employer) is $23,000 annually. Catch-up provisions are up to $7,500 for those aged 50 and older.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP):
Our EAP provides free and confidential short-term counseling to help employees with a variety of personal challenges. Other services and resources are offered through Triad's EAP.

The Town believes that educational opportunities and an emphasis on well-being leads to an increase in employee morale and positive impact on overall health - healthy employees are happier and more productive.
Other Benefits and Services:
To help meet the challenge of balancing our work and personal lives, a variety of additional benefits are available to our employees, including: Teladoc, Marathon Health wellness services, CVS/Caremark Prescription Card, Bereavement Leave and a Tuition Reimbursement program.
Paid Time Off:
Full time employees* will be provided with paid time off that accrues based on years of service as indicated below. Commissioned Police Officers are listed on a separate chart.

BENEFITS EXCLUSIVE TO COMMISSIONED POLICE OFFICERS
Pension Benefits - Police Only (FPPA):
The Town's commissioned police officers are covered by a defined benefit pension plan through the Fire and Police Pension Association (FPPA). 2024 employee / employer contribution rates are 12% / 9.5%, respectively.
Disability Benefits - Police Only (FPPA):
The Town's full time commissioned police officers are covered by the Statewide Death & Disability Plan through FPPA. Benefits provide 24-hour coverage, both on and off duty. The Town currently covers 100% of the premium which is 3.4% of the employee's base pay.
Paid Time Off:
Full time police officers* will be provided with paid time off which accrues based on years of service as indicated below. Paid time off for officers is adjusted to include the Town's observed holidays.
