Position summary:
The responsibility of the Seamer is to sew new rolls into the latex line and maintain smooth transition from one roll of carpet to the next. Measure and document width of rolls and scrap and clock incoming roll lengths.
Educational requirements:
High school diploma or GED is required.
Skills and experience:
Previous textile experience helpful.
Basic mathematical concepts including fractions, decimals, and percentages preferred
Essential duties:
Receive rolls from material handler.
Measure and record width of each roll.
Clock rolls exiting the J-box.
Check run number and roll number on each ticket with the numbers on the run schedule and verify that everything matches and is accurate.
Sew ends of new rolls onto ends of old rolls. Unroll the rolls.
Ensure rolls stay centered while unrolling.
Keep rollers clean of yarn.
Carefully watch the carpet and ensure a smooth transition through the rollers and treatment on that end of the line. Correct any problems of the carpet running on the line.
Cut out, scrap, and document all defects that jeopardize the quality of the carpet.
Send roll tickets to other end of the line.
Cut a sample from carpet roll hourly or as needed to be used for a weight check at roll up.
Deposit all yarn and carpet scraps into specific containers to be recycled.
Maintain a daily log of production.
Keep sewing machine and cutter clean, oiled and in good operating condition.
Refer to Seamer Work Instructions for further instruction on the processes of the duties outlined here. Also refer to latex line work instructions for specific procedures on clean up, start up, and other duties.
Monitor J-boxes for appropriate levels, wraps, and jams.
Maintain housekeeping
Comply with safety rules
Comply with environmental regulations
Be aware of departmental Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Understand and support Interface commitment to sustainability.
Ensure ISO procedures are followed.
Perform other duties as assigned
Physical demands:
Considerable amount of walking, standing, and stair climbing.
Ability to lift 50 to 60 pounds.
Ability to climb ladder safely.
Work environment:
Climate controlled manufacturing environment.
