NovoNutrients is a cutting-edge microbial gas fermentation company using autotrophic organisms and novel bioreactor systems to capture industrial waste carbon dioxide and convert it into feed protein and nutraceuticals. We are seeking a Scientist join us in the early stages of our journey and drive the development of our microbe engineering capabilities. As part of the Biology team at NovoNutrients, you will be responsible for developing DNA sequencing capabilities for characterizing our organisms, in addition to developing genetic screens and other workflows for microbe engineering. Your responsibilities will include:
Developing molecular and microbiology workflows (NGS) DNA sequencing of plasmids, bacterial genomes and 16sRNA
Establishing workflows for adaptive lab evolution
Creating pipelines for sequence data analysis
Executing strain improvement projects that leverage the above capabilities
Familiarity with design-of-experiments (DOE) based methodologies is preferred
General proficiency with DNA assembly and microbe engineering is also preferred
You will contribute to the technical and cultural foundations of this small and growing team
Desired skills and experience:
We prefer candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or related fields. We are looking for applicants that have demonstrated creativity and problem solving across various domains. We prefer candidates with experience in several (not necessarily all) of the following areas:
Molecular, microbiology:
Expertise with various sequencing platforms (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore), equipment, sample preparation, sequence analysis
Experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques for DNA assembly, microbe engineering and assays
Familiarity with developing, executing and improving genome engineering workflows
Other tools:
Experience using statistics and design-of-experiments based approaches to strengthen experimental design and enable robust data analysis
Ability to write software scripts to assist with querying databases, examining sequence data and analyzing experimental results
A general awareness and understanding of basic fermentation processes and analytical chemistry
Personal and interpersonal attributes:
Ability to communicate proactively and work effectively in cross-functional teams and collaborate synergistically with others across departments and disciplines
Self starter with strong organizational skills, project management experience, and clear written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to build capabilities from the ground up
Prior experience and / or a desire to develop mentorship and management skills
Our facilities are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, in Sunnyvale, CA.
