Job description

Overview
As a member of the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) team, the IHC Scientist plans, conducts, and assesses immunohistochemical, immunofluorescent (IF), and in situ hybridization (ISH) labeling using an automated staining platform, with a focus on antibody testing and protocol development/optimization in accordance with Inotiv Boulder standards and procedures. They participate in client interactions related to the technical aspects of in progress IHC work, plus assist with project feasibility assessment and study design planning with the oversight of IHC management. Strong team coordination, communication and high attention to detail are critical to achieving success on the IHC team.
Responsibilities
  • Program and execute reagent preparation and IHC/IF/ISH slide staining using automated platforms.
  • Design, troubleshoot and optimize IHC/IF/ISH slide staining protocols for numerous targets in a variety of species and tissue types.
  • Critically evaluate antibody targets, control tissues and detection reagents to ensure proper experimental design, including use of appropriate positive and negative controls.
  • Assess staining results for QC, troubleshooting, and antibody accuracy.
  • Manage workflow to complete studies within requested timelines.
  • Communicate and document scientific and technical methods and results, as well as study progress and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of work performed, protocols, parameters and staining results and timelines.
  • Assist with antibody, protein target and protocol-related background research including evaluation of commercial product specification sheets, review of relevant published literature and other available online resources to tailor study methods to clients' specific research goals.
  • Operate within and support improvement of the department's inventory management system for supplies, reagents, antibodies, and control tissues.
  • Conform to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safety requirements.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree in Molecular Biology or a related field with at least 3 years of professional experience working in a research laboratory; CRO or industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience with protein-related biochemical assays, preferably immunohistochemistry or other antibody-based immunoassays.
  • Experience or education in histology, pathology, and/or other tissue sciences is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required; customer service or client facing experience is preferable.
  • Scientific discipline, technical rigor, and professional integrity are expected.
  • Proficient in basic algebra and standard laboratory math; adept at calculating accurate volumes, concentrations, dilutions, etc. of reagents.
  • Independent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with the Leica Bond platform is desirable.

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range of $75,000-90,000 will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
