Description
The Separation Sciences group in Discovery Chemistry at our client in Boston, MA is seeking a candidate to join their team whose mission is to analyze and purify novel medicines prepared by their medicinal chemist colleagues. This laboratory-based role will support their High Throughput Purification workflows by monitoring and maintaining instrument performance, executing sample handling tasks, and managing chemicals and consumables.
Responsibilities
- Upkeep of HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography), SFC (super-critical fluid chromatography), and automation instrumentation; including running and evaluating standards, preparing and filling solvents, and coordinating repairs with external partners.
- Operating automated weighing and liquid handling instrumentation.
- Coordinating the weighing, labeling, tracking, and returning of purified fractions.
- Initiating pre-purification and post-purification analysis of submitted samples by LCMS (liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry).
- Managing the ordering and stocking of chemicals and consumables.
- Authoring SOPs for routine laboratory upkeep tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field
- Scientist 1: 0-1 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree
- Scientist 2
- 1-2 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree
- 0-1 years of experience with a Master’s degree
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience working in a laboratory and safely handling chemicals and preparing buffers.
- Basic familiarity with laboratory equipment including HPLC, LCMS, and automation instruments.
- Daily use of Microsoft suite of applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
- Effective organizational and multi-tasking skills with high attention to detail.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with the operation and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment including HPLC, LCMS, automated liquid handlers, automated weighing instruments, and centrifugal evaporators.
- Working knowledge of chromatography and mass spectrometry.
- Experience with LCMS instrument software including Waters MassLynx and Agilent Chemstation.
- Experience with writing and following SOPs for complex laboratory workflows.
