Position Summary:


Shoreline Biosciences is seeking a skilled and highly motivated candidate to join our growing R&D team at the Scientist I level. This position will play a pivotal role in the development of life-saving, cutting-edge induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived Natural Killer Cell and Macrophage therapies. The primary role of the candidate will be to perform genomic characterization of engineered iPSCs and immune cells via Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)and bioinformatics. The ideal candidate will be motivated to learn new techniques and analysis methods and support the Genome Editing team in multiple activities such as NGS data analysis, iPSC cell characterization, and to contribute to process improvements and technology development. This will be a full-time position reporting directly to the Director of Genome Editing. The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 to $138,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate depends on the candidate's experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary, the hired candidate is eligible to receive an annual bonus and will receive an equity grant, at the time of hire, in the form of the option to purchase stock in the future for a specified price.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Support the Genome Editing team in the genetic characterization of genome-edited iPSC via standard molecular biology techniques and Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Perform NGS library preparation and sequencing (Whole Exome Sequencing, RNA-Seq, rhAMP-Seq).
  • Keep accurate records of samples and reagents.
  • Manage daily operations of sequencing activities.
  • Depending on expertise, perform downstream bioinformatics analysis of in-house generated as well as external datasets.

Qualifications:


Education & Experience

  • MS in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics or a related science with 5+ years relevant experience; or PhD in the same disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience with Next Generation Sequencing library preparation methods.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (nucleic acids extraction and quantification, PCR, qPCR).
  • Experience in bioinformatics and NGS data analysis processes such as alignment and variant calling.
  • Experience with liquid handling systems and automation.
  • Skills & Knowledge

    • Coding skills in R or Python, bash and standard bioinformatics tools.
    • Knowledge of standard laboratory and safety procedures.
    • Aptitude for technology and instrumentation.
    • Strong organizational skills, high level of data integrity and attention to details.
    • Comfortable in a fast-paced work environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

    Work Environment:


    • Will require working with cells and cell lines of human and/or animal origin.

    • Work in and around common laboratory equipment.
    • The regular requirements of an office environment (computers, computer screens, workstations, etc.) apply when not working in or around a laboratory environment.
    • 100% on-site work at corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA.
    • Evening and weekend work as necessary.
