Job description

We are leading the way in developing a broad portfolio and innovative pipeline of vaccines to make an impact for society. We deliver over two million vaccine doses per day to people living in over 160 countries.

By leveraging a novel and highly efficient vaccine technology - called Multiple Antigen Presenting System (MAPS) - enables the high-affinity binding of protective polysaccharides as well as proteins in a single vaccine, uniquely inducing a broad and protective B-cell and T-cell immune response - we continue to get ahead of disease together.

We have an exciting new opportunity in our Formulation Development team. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to work with our experience, energetic, and passionate team to develop a novel formulation to support our exciting MAPS technology.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to pre-formulation and formulation development for multi-valent vaccines.
  • Conduct laboratory-based analytical chemistry, biophysical characterization, and formulation research activities.
  • Execute hands-on experiments, collect data, and perform data analysis independently to support both drug substance and drug product formulation screening and development.
  • Help design and select stable formulations and implement scalable processes.
  • Maintain excellent documentation of all work including electronic lab notebooks, test methods, and protocols.
  • Prepare and deliver concise scientific presentations of experimental results and assist in authoring detailed scientific technical reports.
  • Work closely and build a strong collaboration with Analytical Development and Process Development teams to execute stability studies on selected formulation candidates.
  • Oversee maintenance of key laboratory equipment and perform simple maintenance activities.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, and GxP compliance.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Protein Chemistry (or equivalent, e.g., Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Pharmaceutical Sciences)
  • Hands-on experience in protein biochemical and biophysical characterization, developability assessment, and stress stability studies in support of formulation development.
  • Detailed knowledge of protein structure, protein stability, biophysical characterization, formulation screening, and development.
  • Strong expertise in protein biophysical and biochemical characterization techniques, including size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), cation exchange chromatography (CEX), hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC), Heparin affinity HPLC, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF), dynamic light scattering (DLS), size-exclusion multi-angle light scattering (SEC-MALS), UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, imaged capillary isoelectric focusing (icIEF), capillary electrophoresis sodium dodecyl sulfate (CE-SDS), particle and viscosity measurements. Must be willing and able to learn new technologies as needed.
  • Demonstrated track record of independent thinking, creativity, and scientific accomplishment.
  • Highly responsible and self-motivated with the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment and ensure high quality and timely deliverables.
  • Great team player and work ethic with excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of relevant biopharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
