DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
TITLE:
School Transportation Morning Dispatcher (5:30 am - 1:00 pm)
2022-2023 School Year
POSITION SUMMARY:
To maintain ongoing two-way radio communication with all transportation staff. The dispatcher interacts with the public to support the efficient operation of the department; maintain an accurate log of daily events; assists in the coordination of home-to-school bus routes, field trips, and athletics to provide the maximum benefits to the students, teachers, administrators and citizens of Framingham.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
School bus, ambulance, police, or fire dispatch experience preferred.

Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations related to pupil transportation. Knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for dispatching transportation vehicles. Knowledge of streets and roads within District boundaries and trip destinations. Knowledge of school operation and ability to relate effectively to students, staff, and parents. Skills in computer proficiency and application of various techniques. Ability to communicate specifically with drivers via two-way radio regarding routes, emergencies, and student issues. Ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing. Ability to work as part of a team and continue learning. Ability to work efficiently and effectively with staff and the public. Ability to handle confidential matters in an ethical manner. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively, exercise judgment and creativity, organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure with constant disruptions. Ability to work with and respect a multicultural population is a must.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain ongoing two-way radio communication with all transportation staff.
  • Respond to administrative, parent, and student transportation questions.
  • Collaborate with transportation staff to communicate route information.
  • Instruct drivers in operating procedures or schedule changes.
  • Assists in the coordination of home-to-school bus routes, field trips, athletic trips.
  • Assist in estimating field trip costs and expedite procedures associated with trips.
  • Maintain an accurate log of daily events.
  • Implement emergency procedures as situations occur and require.
  • Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including the requirements of confidentiality regarding student and personal information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality and have consistent, reliable attendance.
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional related duties as may be required or assigned.
  • Assume additional reasonable responsibilities as directed by the Director of Transportation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Not Applicable.
FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION:
This position is classified as non-exempt.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Covered under the Framingham School Committee Policy.
This position will begin as a $26.00-$28.00 per hour position. This is a 12-month position, 7 hours (5:30 am - 1:00 pm) per day (additional hours as needed).
