Reports to: Student Development Team Supervisor
Employment Information: Full time, 10 month bargaining unit position
Job Summary:
The School Psychologist provides psychological evaluations for re-evaluation of deaf and hard of hearing students ages 3-21. Performs evaluations of overall development, nonverbal cognition, academic and social-emotional development of students through the use of techniques such as non-biased testing, observation and clinical evaluation. Coordinates state-mandated Reevaluation Reports.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in School Psychology.
  • Possesses or be eligible for appropriate PA Department of Education Certification.
  • Two years' experience in a program Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students, or comparable training/experience. Knowledge of deafness, its culture and the effect it has on the development of the child and its influence on the family.
  • A strong general understanding of child and adolescent development.
  • Knowledge and experience working in a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic educational setting is desirable.
  • Proficient in Sign Language: At least Intermediate level on ASLPI at time of hire; Advance level skills are required within two years.
  • An understanding of how a child's hearing loss and language deprivation affects overall functioning
  • An understanding of typical child development
  • An understanding and experience with a culturally diverse population
  • Knowledge of Pelican and IEP Writer is a plus, ability to learn these systems is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the development of comprehensive Reevaluation Reports (RR) for students' school wide as assigned by the Supervisor of Student Development Team/Lead School Psychologist. As a member of the multi-disciplinary assessment team, share diagnostic results and recommendations with parents and/or staff.
  • Coordinate the Re-Evaluation (RR) meeting schedule with IEP Coordinator(s).
  • Sends home Permission to Reevaluate forms to parents to get consent for testing
  • Gather data from IEP team members to synthesize into RRs
  • Complete RRs in a timely manner and provide them to IEP team members including parents and LEAs
  • Frequently communicate and collaborate with IEP coordinators and Local Education Agencies (LEA)
  • Explain results and provide recommendations during IEP meetings
  • Consult with team members when concerns are raised regarding a student's learning
  • Support Lead School Psychologist with consultation process
  • Administer comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations as part of the enrollment process for newly referred students, and conduct appropriate biennial re-evaluations of currently enrolled students.
  • Upon referral, evaluate students who are experiencing educational, social, and/or emotional adjustment difficulties.
  • Meet and consult with teachers/staff regarding RR reports when requested.
  • Participate in student staffing and assist with educational and social/behavior problems, as needed.
  • Serve as an instructional team member, working closely with teachers, aides and other support staff.
  • Participate in or conduct appropriate education workshops, and serve on appropriate school committees.
  • Provide outreach services to external schools and school districts on consultations and evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Student Development Team.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Sitting, standing, walking, frequent bending, crouching, reaching, stooping
  • Lifting and moving of lighter objects such as books, chairs, student desks
  • Manual dexterity skills for using office equipment
  • Ability to read and attend to computer screens for long periods of time
