Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with healthcare providers, students' parents, school district staff, and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care for students.
Assist in the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive school health program.
Collect information about the health development status of students for compliance with state immunization regulations and Board of Education policies.
Conduct school programs of immunization, physical exams, and sight and hearing tests.
Perform nursing assessment for students who are ill or injured and provide appropriate care and interventions.
Evaluate nursing care provided and adjust the plan of care as necessary.
Implement Board policy regarding the exclusion and readmission of students in connection to certain infectious diseases.
Maintain accurate records and documentation as per state and federal laws and Board policies.
Develop individual health care plans (ICHP) for students with specific needs.
Serve as a member of school teams as a designated health care professional.
Provide guidance, counseling, and health education to students, parents, and employees.
Report to parents, school district personnel, physicians, clinics, and others as needed to meet student health needs.
Provide instruction and training regarding health-related measures like the Heimlich Maneuver, and Blood Borne Pathogen training.
Contribute to nursing and school health through participation in research and preparation of reports.
Provide medical assessment to school district employees as requested.
Provide health education to students as requested.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Must meet qualifications of a School Nurse as defined in state regulations.
Experience working with pediatric population, preferably in a community or school setting.
License or Certificate: Registered professional nurse (R.N.) currently licensed in the state.
Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
