Job description

The Academic Faculty Director is a key leadership position within the university. He/she/they promote and support a quality learning experience for learners by ensuring an engaging courseroom environment. This management position contributes to a range of activities related to excellence in teaching and learner retention by working closely with each of the Capella schools as well as relevant offices to manage systems and processes related to teaching effectiveness. The Faculty Director coordinates with the pertinent program directors in order to remain aware of discipline-specific requirements and content intent. He/she/they act as a liaison to other departments including the Center for Faculty Excellence, Office of Research & Scholarship, Doctoral Affairs, Faculty Hiring, HR, Faculty Scheduling, Learner Affairs, and Learner Services.
  • Responsible for management oversight of between 100-150 PT/adjunct faculty and mentors:

    • Promote learner success by fostering excellence in teaching and mentoring.

    • In collaboration with the program director, regularly analyze and report on data to assess learner learning and retention.

    • Cross-functionally collaborate with program directors on key course development(s) and scheduling initiatives pertaining to PT/adjunct faculty.

  • Ensure CU standards, policies, and priorities are reflected in course delivery.

  • Support and promote instructor professional development to enhance teaching skills.

  • Ensure instructors are aware of current and emerging classroom procedures and instructional materials.

  • Advise instructors on use of materials and equipment.

  • Research, evaluate, and prepare recommendations on instructional delivery methodologies, materials, and expectations are clearly communicated and met.

  • Conduct annual performance reviews.

  • Maintain discipline knowledge by participating in discipline-related professional communities.

  • Teach the equivalent of 2 assignments per year.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Monitoring — Monitoring/assessing performance in yourself and those who report to you.

  • Adaptability/Flexibility — Open to change and to considerable variety of responsibilities, ideas, and approaches.

  • Courage -- ability to have crucial conversations to address high stakes, sensitive issues and improve performance.

Work Experience:

  • Coaching experience preferred.

  • Working with remote teams and a matrix environment preferred.

  • Experience leading and coaching large remote teams preferred.

  • Direct management preferred.

  • Human resources background preferred.

Education:

​All degrees must be conferred and from a regionally accredited institution. Copies of required certificates and licenses and unofficial transcripts for all graduate degrees with the institution and conferred degree and date must be attached.

  • Doctorate in nursing or related required.

  • Master of science in nursing required.


Certificates, licenses and registrations:

  • Active unencumbered RN license required.

Other:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%).

  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.

  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.

  • Faculty and Federal Work Study roles require access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.

  • This role may require lifting, however reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with our ADA policies.

  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers.

  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant. Accommodations related to schedule may be considered.

  • Able to access information using a computer.

$92,700.00 - $139,100.00 - Salary
