Our School Nurse position for the 2023-24 school year is full-time (12-month employee). The expected hours of work are 7:30am-3:30pm daily (when school is in session). See details below for Summer schedule. The position reports to the Director of Finance & Operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for supporting students; be professional to parents, faculty, and staff; and have a sense of humor, positivity and warmth, and a dedication to working in a vigorous school community with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate clinical competency in school nursing practice and oversee the health care for students, providing first aid care and medically prescribed support and/or services.
- Assess students’ health and refer students to urgent care or the emergency room, as necessary.
- Possess knowledge of and the desire to stay current with ongoing COVID safety protocols (as outlined by state and federal guidelines)
- Maintain confidential records and other relevant health data.
- Identify opportunities for coordination with faculty on student health curriculum.
- Participate on the Health & Safety Committee.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to continue to grow as a practitioner.
- Ensure all students’ medical paperwork are up-to-date
- Maintenance of the nurse supply budget
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Maintain medical records for all students.
- Demonstrate confidentiality
- Navigate campus in all weather conditions.
- Communicate verbally and in writing to community members and medical professionals.
- Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, lift and stand for long periods of time.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years experience as a licensed registered nurse is required, preferably working in Pediatrics or Adolescent medicine.
- License in MA must be current and maintained throughout employment.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing from a college or university is required.
- Current certification in CPR Adult/Child and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Certification from the National Board of Certification of School Nurses is preferred.
- Prior experience working in a school environment is valued.
Other Requirements: Vacation must be approved in advance, and a substitute nurse must be available to cover.
Summer Nurse Schedule:
During the Summer Programs season (eight weeks from June to August), the hours are:
- 7:30am-3pm every Monday (Nurse attends Monday morning staff meeting and helps with camper registration related to medical needs at the start of each camp week)
- 8am-3pm every Tuesday-Friday
- Prior to the start of Summer Programs: Part-time schedule (~20hrs/week) to gather camper medical files, review and edit medical forms, design and implement medical staff training, help order medical supplies, follow up with families, and line up med kits and field trip paperwork.
