Overview
The Groundskeeper Lead will be responsible for maintaining campus grounds by performing general grounds maintenance and landscaping activities while also supervising staff. This role seeks an experienced professional with a passion for working outside and a commitment to the environment. This role oversees landscaping and maintenance of all campus grounds and provides an aesthetically pleasing and functional outdoor environment.
Position Summary
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct the groundskeeping staff in daily maintenance of the campus.
- Supervise and train assigned employees, conduct staff meetings to share department strategy, goals, and other information; train staff on usage of equipment, proper landscaping techniques, and proper safety techniques.
- Manage the physical resources of the grounds department, determine equipment needed.
- Perform, monitor, and manage tasks such as irrigation, tree removal, trimming, plumbing, parking lot maintenance, and consult with contractors to determine extent of service required and schedule work to have minimal impact on daily operations of facilities.
- Select, purchase, and monitor application of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
- Consult with Director, grounds maintenance professionals and other staff to assess campus grounds maintenance needs.
GENRAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Mow, trim, and edge lawns
- Maintain athletic fields
- Use a blower to clean landscaped and parking lot areas
- Keep grounds clean and free of trash and debris
- Prune, plant, weed, and fertilize trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns
- Remove snow with shovels, blowers, and plows
- Maintain equipment
- Provide logistical support for campus activities and maintain a campus environment that is safe, clean, and conducive to learning.
- Assist fire drill, lockdown, and other safety exercises.
- Assist in managing traffic flow and parking throughout campus.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- High school or equivalent (Required)
- 2 years of experience groundskeeping
- 1 year experience as a supervisor
- Membership in related professional organization(s) desirable
- Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to walk for long periods of time around campus
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Work from ladders
- Climb stairs
- Stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
- Work in an outdoor environment, with exposure to inclement weather and varying temperatures
- Sit at a desk working on a computer
