School Grounds and Maintenance Technician

The successful School Grounds and Maintenance Technician can come from a variety of backgrounds including apartment maintenance, HVAC,general labor, construction, hotel, general building maintenance, and workorder management. Our school considers a range of factors includingeducation and experience when determining base compensation.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

         High School diploma or equivalent.

         Experience in building and ground maintenanceoperations.

         Experience in building and facility securityprocedures.

         Familiarity with computers and software relating tomaintenance and security.

         Intermediate competency with HVAC, plumbing,electrical, appliance repair, painting, and carpentry preferred.

         Ability to read chemical labels.

         Ability to read material safety data sheets (MSDS).

         Ability to initiate and complete work orders.

         Effective communication skills.

         Must have a valid driver's license.

         Training or certification in a skilled trade isconsidered a plus.

         Must be able to pass an extensive background screeningand reference check.

Essential Functions:

         Maintain school buildings and grounds in top conditionto ensure full and productive use of the campus facilities.

         Ensure that all activities and event setups conform tocampus guidelines.

         Communicate effectively with all members of the campusand school community.

         React to change proactively and productively managelast-minute tasks as assigned.

         Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery asnecessary.

         Respond to staff and faculty requests to resolve issueswithin the buildings or classrooms.

         Participate in morning and afternoon carpools to ensuresafe entry and exit of students on and off campus.

         Monitor the campus for suspicious activity and workwith the security team to ensure a safe school environment.

         Perform routine cleaning and Maintenance of sharedspaces such as lunchrooms, bathrooms, common areas, etc.

         Those experienced in skilled trades will be assigned totasks such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry projects, etc.

         Support the values and philosophy of AYA's education.

         Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort ofstudents and employees on campus.

         Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, andefficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.

         Perform preventive maintenance, repair, andinstallation in connection with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. exterior and interior of buildings. School Grounds.

         Move equipment and materials within and between schoolbuildings.

         Act as a substitute custodian when necessary.

         Always observe school policies.

         Stay informed of new information, innovative ideas, andtechniques.

         Adhere to all campus health and safety policies,including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens and Communicable Disease Plan.

         Other duties as assigned by the Buildings and GroundsSupervisor or Administrative

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

         Requires prolonged sitting and/or standing.

         Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift,carry, pull, or push heavy objects or

         materials.

         Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending,turning, and reaching.

         Requires climbing and balancing.

         Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.

         Must work in noisy and crowded environments.

         Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.

         Must be able to drive a mechanical vehicle.

         Must be able to work in high places.

         Must be able to lift 50lbs unassisted.
