Job Description
We are looking for a responsible and dependable individual for a part-time position with the City to regulate vehicles and pedestrian traffic to ensure children and adults get safely to and from school. This part-time position works from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM, and again from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, on all school days, helping children and adults cross our busy streets. All assignments are received from the Police Chief and are carried out in accordance with established procedures.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and must be able to complete the required School Crossing Guard training. Candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test, must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and must have the physical stamina to perform the duties of this position. Good public relations skills and a professional appearance and demeanor are required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to assigned crossing at the prescribed times and does not leave the School Crossing unattended
- Ensures the safety of children and pedestrians crossing the streets and highways at designated intersections
- Notifies appropriate supervisor in a timely manner if unable to report for duty so that a replacement for assigned School Crossing can be found
- Notifies appropriate supervisor immediately of any injury or accident at or near the School Crossing
- Complies with uniform regulations with respect to attire, equipment, and appearance
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required
- Able to complete School Crossing Guard Training
- Willing and able to accept, obey, and carry out orders and instruction
- Must have an understanding of the laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to traffic
- Have a good understanding of and the ability to promote good public relations
- Display a professional attitude in dealing with the public
- Must be alert and have good observation skills and the ability to instruct and communicate well with children
- Able to stand for extended periods while carrying and raising up a stop paddle
- Meet the physical and mental standards as prescribed by the City Personnel Policy
- Possess a valid Florida driver’s license
- Able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
- Must be dependable and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Have your own transportation to and from an assigned post
