SCHOOL BUS DRIVER / CUSTODIAN
LOCATION: Brothers Elementary School
HOURS & DAYS: 40 hours per week; Bus Driver - 149 days per school year and Custodian 260 days per year
SALARY: Custodian $16.28 to $20.68 per hour; Bus Driver $21.00 to $26.46 per hour. Pay determined by job function per classified salary schedule; depending on experience

Job Title: School Bus Driver
Work Days: As Assigned
Reports to: Transportation Supervisor
FLSA Status: Classified - Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY:
A School Bus Driver transports students to and from school and other authorized activities in a safe and professional manner. Reports to the Transportation Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Drive a bus on an assigned route in all weather conditions.
  2. Load and unload students at specific stops on an established time schedule.
  3. Conduct a vehicle pre and post trip inspection as prescribed by law.
  4. Report mechanical difficulties according to department process.
  5. Complete assigned forms and reports in a timely manner.
  6. Maintain the bus to provide a safe and clean atmosphere, inside and out.
  7. Maintain discipline on bus and report discipline problems to appropriate staff; attend student-parent meetings regarding School Bus discipline problems, as required.
  8. Interact professionally and courteously with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  9. Maintain appropriate licenses, certifications, and training hours as required.
  10. Drive bus on special trips inside or outside the District.
  11. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  12. Perform related duties as assigned.
  13. Fulfill working conditions and physical effort listed below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or the equivalent.
  2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  3. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English.
  4. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written communication.
  5. Ability to operate School Buses in a safe and lawful manner during varying weather, road, and traffic conditions; and to recognize when conditions are unsafe for bus operation.
  6. Adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free work place.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Length of Year: Days as Assigned. Length of Day: As assigned by Supervisor.
  2. Possess the ability to sit for extended periods of time and perform regular climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, walking, and crouching.
  3. Frequent talking, hearing, reaching, and use of hands for fine manipulation.
  4. Possess ability to exert force to 50-100 pounds occasionally and 25-50 pounds of force frequently.
  5. Frequent near and far acuity, depth perception, focal length change, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  6. Possible exposure to inclement weather conditions and hazardous traffic and/or driving conditions.
  7. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to very loud.
  8. Working closely with children can be physically and emotionally demanding.

JOB SUMMARY
Provide a clean and safe environment for the school's students. Reports to Lead Custodian.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Fills a position designated for School Custodian.
  2. Performs all general cleaning duties, including, but not inclusive of:
    1. Working from prepared work schedule, sweep, scrub, wash and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets.
    2. Clean and dust walls, furniture, woodwork and other surfaces.
    3. Pick up paper and other refuse on grounds, sweep walks and entrances to building.
    4. Wash, scrub and disinfect rest rooms.
    5. Clean windows, door glass, drinking fountains, sinks, window sills, and blinds.
    6. Empty and clean waste containers, replace light bulbs.
  3. Assist in moving and rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other fixtures and equipment.
  4. Sets up & cleans up cafeteria as required.
  5. Perform minor maintenance and repair of custodial equipment.
  6. Correct and/or report safety, sanitary and fire hazards when observed.
  7. Assist in the complete cleaning and routine maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment during breaks and non-student days.
  8. Assist in securing the buildings at the end of each shift.
  9. Mows and weeds around buildings & curbs.
  10. Coordinates the setting up, oversight and taking down of evening activities in the school buildings.
  11. Perform basic computer skills.
  12. Fulfill other duties as assigned.
  13. Fulfill performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.
  14. Fulfill working conditions and physical effort listed below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. High school diploma or the equivalent.
  2. Able to relate well to students, staff and public.
  3. Read, understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
  4. Adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free work place.
  5. Able to perform custodial functions at the rate expected of custodians in the same building.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  2. Lift, move, or be able to carry objects weighing 60 lbs.
  3. Use cleaning materials and equipment.
  4. Responsibilities may require the employee to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  5. Able to work from scaffolding and an 8' ladder.
