Scheduling/Referral Clerk

Job Summary
Our Scheduling Clerks maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment, and performs patient care services that support the physician's practice.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Basic understanding of medical terminology is required.
Computer experience in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred.

Job Duties

• Schedule testing ordered by the physician and explain instructions to patients.
• Obtain precertification for testing ordered by the physician and fill out appropriate order forms.
• Verifying patient insurance.
• Calling to confirm patient appointments.
• Completing insurance and physician referrals.
• Adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding protected health information (PHI)
• Complete incoming and outgoing medical records requests.
• Maintain a log of scheduled testing, referrals, and medical records to ensure patient compliance.
• Scanning and indexing of documents into patient charts.
• Review and sort incoming faxes in our electronic system.
• Check voicemail system regularly throughout the day and type message into EHR.
• Relay instructions from the physician to a patient or authorized person as well and document patient concerns and patient messages in the patient’s medical record.
• Explain general office procedures to patients.
• Manage appointment scheduling and physician’s schedule.
• Able to perform under stressful, emotional, or otherwise difficult situations.
• Prompt attendance to ensure the clinic operates efficiently.
• Basic knowledge of medical terms for scheduling and treatment purposes.
• Excellent customer service skills.
