Job Description

The SBA Loan Closing Officer manages the SBA loan packaging, closing, and funding process on SBA loans upon receipt of a credit approved loan package. The SBA Closer ensures the loan is closed, fully funded, and serviced according to SBA SOP requirements.

Essential Functions:

1.Responsible for closing SBA guaranteed loans and SBA 504 loans according to SBA SOP.

2.Prepares SBA Loan Closing checklist for Borrowers.

3.Prepares SBA packages to ensure borrower information is complete before SBA Loan approval is requested. Assembles SBA 10 Tab Loan package for closing. Responsible for submitting changes to SBA Term and Conditions in ETRAN/CAFS.

4.Coordinates the SBA closing process, engages SBA Relationship Assistant (Lending Assistant) to assist in process, engages external SBA attorney to prepare loan documents, and interacts with SBA Underwriters to request any modifications if required.

5.Able to enter Loan in ETRAN to obtain SBA Terms and Conditions for SBA guaranteed loans. Responsible for submitting changes to SBA Term and Conditions in ETRAN.

6.Obtains SBA Loan approvals/ Terms and Conditions from SBA ETRAN and saves in 1502 folder to ensure all new SBA approvals are included in monthly 1502 reporting by Loan Operations.

7.Handles monthly SBA construction and working capital loan fundings and ensures loan proceeds are funded according to Sources and Uses in Loan approval and per SBA Terms and Conditions.

8.Assists team and clients in servicing SBA loans.

9.Performs a variety of customer service activities including responding to requests, researching discrepancies. Can resolve complex loan and deposit issues. Types routine letters and forms, answers telephone and directs callers to proper bank personnel.

10.Acts as primary contact with customers, Lenders, SBA Underwriters, and Loan Administration and Operations through the SBA Loan Closing process.

11.Coordinates loan documentation through Loan Operations and works directly with SBA documentation attorney and title company on real estate Loan Closings. Requires excellent knowledge and understanding of documentation required to complete various types of loans, including construction loans. Conducts a pre-closing and a post-closing file review and forwards to Loan Operations area for booking.

12.Ensures requirements on loan pre-closing and closing- checklists are met prior to funding or proper approval is obtained for exceptions.

13.Performs all other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

14.High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and some college is required but prefer a 4-year degree. At least five (5) years of banking experience working in an SBA Department, and SBA training or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work related experience should consist of customer service, preparation of SBA Forms, SBA Loan packages, review of SBA loan documentation, and SBA Loan Closing and loan servicing experience as well as experience with real estate Loan Closings, and at least five (5) years of SBA Loan Closing, and real estate Loan Closing experience. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school, or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.

15.Intermediate experience, knowledge, and training in branch operation activities, terminology and products and services.

16.Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank operational policies.

17.Knowledge of current SBA SOP’s and ability to accurately complete SBA Loan Forms and SBA Packaging requirements.

18.Ability to communicate effectively with SBA Borrowers, Lenders, attorneys, Sellers, and accountants to gather necessary documents for SBA Loan Closings.

19.Experience monitoring, disbursing, and servicing SBA 7a loans and other SBA guaranteed loans per SOP requirements.

20.Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; and word processing, excel spreadsheets. and account opening software programs.

21.Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of the position.

22.Basic math skills; calculate interest and balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; count currency, and negotiable instruments in a timely manner.

23.Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees.

24.Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.

25.Excellent organizational and time management skills.

26.Detail oriented person able to set up SBA Loan Equity Injection and Loan Funding spread sheets on Excel and track disbursements and purpose.

27.Ensure requirements on pre-closing and closing checklists are met prior to funding or approval is obtained for exceptions.

28.Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced, diverse, and growth-oriented environment.

29.Ability to work without supervision while performing duties and interact well with other team members.
