Primary Objective: Supports production operations by operating saws while meeting or exceeding standards of quality, productivity and safety. This position works under minimal to moderate supervision.
Key Job Duties:
- Operates battery of saws to perform such operations as rip sawing, cross cutting, beveling, grooving and mitering.
- Lays out, positions, aligns and secures material, parts or assemblies prior to sawing.
- Selects sawing disk blade according to type of cut specified on work order and bolts disk to machine shaft.
- Raises, lowers or tips table to specified angle according to depth of cut specifications.
- Measures finished product to verify dimension and examines for defects to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Replaces worn or damaged saw blades using hand tools.
- Cuts metal, drills holes, sharpens, shines metals and removes all sharp edges.
- Reads and interprets technical drawings, blueprints and other specifications.
- May operate drill presses, grinders, metal lathes and a variety of hand tools.
- Uses basic mathematic skills to solve problems pertaining to sawing functions.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Maintains records as needed.
- Assist in training other Saw Operators.
- Assists in other areas and performs additional tasks as needed.
- Maintains material in orderly fashion notifying supervisor when a material is out of stock or unavailable.
- Participates and contributes to Massman's lean manufacturing journey.
