San Diego Bulldogs Basketball is a players-first youth program that is committed to the development of its basketball players both on and off the court. Our Basketball Coaches know and understand the basketball league rule book and any changes that are made. They are responsible for studying the skills and abilities of the players on their team and are expected to place each player in the most suitable position. Basketball coaches must recognize and use each player’s specific talents to devise plays and playing strategies for games. You will be considered a role model for young athletes assigned to your team; therefore sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation and punctuality are all mandatory.
Location Varies:
Polster Branch/Carmel Valley Middle School (3800-A Mykonos Lane, San Diego, 92130), Griset Branch (1221 Encinitas Blvd., Encinitas, 92024), Alliant International University(10455 Pomerado Rd, San Diego, CA 92131) Play by Play (PXP) (1601 San Elijo Rd S, San Marcos, CA, 92078)
Schedule:
Monday-Thursday coaching practices (schedule varies, practices held generally between hours of 4:00p.m. – 9p.m.)
Saturday-Sunday coaching games
Schedule will vary slightly depending on the practice times of the team assigned/as shifts are needed. Schedule also varies depending on game days.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
· Teach the athletes the fundamentals of the sport.
· Supervise games and practices.
· Inform players/parents about games, practices, events, cancellations, and make-ups.
· Promote the values of responsibility and commitment and emphasize the importance of academics first and foremost.
· Encourage the involvement of the parents in the sport as volunteers for ride sharing, fundraising, etc.
· Provide a safe and fun environment for the children.
· Learn and follow league rules, policies, and procedures.
· Put the wellbeing of players ahead of your desire to win.
· Assume responsibility for equipment that has been provided by Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, including uniforms.
· Inform the San Diego Bulldogs Basketball Program Director of any problems.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience:
The understanding and knowledge of basketball is required (at least 1 year's experience). Previous experience in coaching preferred, but not required.
Critical to the success of this position:
- Calm and patient demeanor with others, especially with youth.
- Punctuality- being on time.
- Be organized and dependable.
- Be enthusiastic.
· Must have or be able to obtain a valid CA driver’s license and insurable driving record to drive Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito vehicles.
· Must have or be available to obtain CPR and First Aid certification (will train).
· Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening, criminal background clearance, and LiveScan fingerprinting.
