Safety Officer

Cockram Construction is an international management-owned construction services business with a history of over 150 years. We are, at heart, a construction company with an aim to provide top level services to our clients in high tech and challenging industries. In the US, our staff provide services on client sites coast to coast with a focus in the Pharmaceutical / Bio-Tech and Themed/Attraction industries.

We currently have an opening for a Safety Officer to join our team in Thousand Oaks, CA. In this critical role, you will be responsible for promoting a safe and healthy work environment. You will ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company policies, and proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards. This role requires a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular safety inspections of the facility, identifying and addressing potential hazards.
• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs aligned with industry best practices and OSHA standards.
• Investigate safety incidents, develop corrective action plans, and track trends to prevent future occurrences.
• Provide safety training and education to employees on a variety of topics, including personal protective equipment (PPE) use, emergency procedures, and hazard communication.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documentation, including accident reports, safety data sheets (SDS), and training records.
• Foster a positive safety culture by promoting safe work practices and encouraging employee participation in safety initiatives.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as production, engineering, and maintenance, to ensure safety is integrated into all aspects of operations.
• Respond to emergencies and accidents, ensuring the safety of employees and the facility.
• Participate in safety committee meetings and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Some overnight shifts will be required to ensure comprehensive safety coverage.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health (OSH), Safety Science, or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety management role, preferably within the manufacturing or pharmaceutical industry.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or OSHA 500 certification (preferred).
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and relevant safety standards.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Schedule:

• Full-time (40 hours per week) with some required overnight shifts.
