THE POSITION
Under the direction of supervisory personnel within the Public Safety Department, the Public Safety Assistant performs specialized clerical duties. This role requires a fundamental understanding of departmental programs, policies, procedures, and activities. The incumbent is responsible for providing assistance to both internal staff and external visitors, handling complaints and inquiries, handle cash transactions and work with sensitive or confidential information.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent required. At least one year experience in customer service required, preferably in Public Safety.
Knowledge and Ability:
Office Assignment: Ability to answer phones using proper telephone techniques and etiquette; interact with the public in a polite and courteous manner; obtain accurate information through interview and observation; analyze situations quickly and objectively; acquire a working knowledge of various applicable California Codes and Paramount Municipal Codes; express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; maintain a good working relationship with the public and fellow employees; work with minimal supervision. Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.
Fleet Assignment: Maintaining the aesthetics, maintenance and mechanics of the City's fleet of vehicles; facility maintenance and operations support functions. Specific duties will include driving vehicles between the Paramount Sheriff's Station, the Sheriff's Station in Lakewood, and other County locations; deploying the City's fleet of decoy vehicles and radar trailers; and other duties as assigned.
License Required:Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

- Utilize the Sheriff's Mobile Digital Computer system.
- Handle radio traffic on both the City and Sheriff's radio frequencies.
- Interact with the District Attorney's office on subpoena service.
- Operate a City vehicle.
- Perform general clerical functions including data entry and filing.
- Responding to verbal and written complaints including requests for information from the public.
- Provide facility and vehicle maintenance support functions.
- Deploy the City's fleet of decoy vehicles and radar trailers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
