Safety Monitor: Staffing Office - Mizzou Students - Prn

Shift:  Varied hours, Varied days - PRN (as needed) Location:  University Hospital    Department:  Staffing Support Services  Salary Range:  $12.50  Job Summary:  Under the direction of a nurse or other professional, the SAFETY MONITOR observes and provides an environment of safety for a patient or patients, and provides communication where nursing or clinical intervention is required. No patient care is provided.  Detailed Description: Responsible for sitting with and observing assigned patients for safety, including suicidal precautions.   May assist nursing staff with simple tasks such as, answering the phone, performing simple tasks on behalf of the patient, ambulating the patient to prevent a fall, ensuring the safety of a patient in restraints, ensuring the patient does not get out of bed without assistance, ensuring the patient does not remove any medical devices or therapies (such as monitor leads, oxygen tubing, intravenous lines, feeding/drainage tubes, etc.) and monitoring oral intake for difficulties.   Responsible for contacting the nurse if the patient has any requests or requires services.   Provide exemplary customer services by establishing and ensuring good rapport with patients, guests, and staff within a patient family centered environment.   May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.

Requires a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
