Job Description
The Safety Manager creates a culture for the entire organization in which safety is truly first and foremost on the minds of every employee. The Safety Manger is intolerant of unsafe actions, unsafe working conditions, and equipment that does not meet manufacturers recommendations. The Safety Manager leads by example, promptly counseling all employees in proper actions pertaining to every safety aspect of a construction project. The Safety Manager shall carry out the following roles and responsibilities:
Role and Responsibilities
· Must be an example for Health and Safety at all levels on a project site with personal commitment to never violating our safety/HR policy
· Maintains constant focus on loss prevention
· Assures compliance with OSHA regulations
· Assures compliance with EPA, DNR and SWPPP regulations
· Provides training for all employees, focused on safe working habits, safe workings conditions, accident prevention, and pro-active perspectives on loss prevention
· Communicates directly with management at all levels to keep them informed of adherence to policies, areas of concern and any violations, regardless of magnitude
· Promptly investigates all accidents and prepares detailed reports of findings
· Enforces all safety rules and regulations with documentation of any variances
· Remains current with all safety regulations and updates company safety rules promptly when changes occur
· Maintains records of all safety violations, training, and safety policy revisions
· Responsible for administering workers compensation program
· Administers new employee safety training
· Lead by example and promote high standards and reputation for excellence
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· Minimum of 2 years of safety management experience in a construction environment, preferably in concrete and excavation.
· Average operating level with computers and associated software.
· Must be able to visit work sites and work effectively in a construction environment.
· Must possess a valid driver’s license and can drive to job sites.
· Must adhere to safety protocol and work in a drug-free environment.
Preferred Skills
· Capable of reviewing and understanding OSHA regulations.
· Capable of reviewing and understanding EPA and DNR regulations including SWPPP inspections and reporting as needed
· Effective communicating with all employees individually and in group settings.
· Effective communicating with regulatory agencies both verbally and in writing.
· Capable of reviewing and understanding manufacturers recommendations for proper and safe operation of equipment.
· Basic knowledge of NFPC and NEC codes and regulations.
· Basic understanding of Workers Compensation policy
· Superior organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize large workloads.
· Self-starter who is decisive and work collaboratively under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
