The Safety Manager is responsible for the performance of the Safety and Training Team; ensuring that themselves and the team members are trained and compliant to SOPs, meeting performance requirements, and executing duties in a safe and efficient manner according to expectations. Also responsible for oversight of planning, hiring, scheduling, incident management, safety performance programs, reporting, ongoing coaching, and corrective actions. This position reports to the Director of Safety and Training.
General Expectations
- Ensures weekly and monthly schedules are up to date to provide both leadership and frontline coverage for all days/shifts. Requests additional team members as needed.
- Effectively delegates duties and monitors execution for Assistant Managers and Supervisors.
- Expected to perform at least 10 audits weekly, with at least 15 hours weekly spent on the ramp with the safety team.
- Conducts weekly safety review meetings with the Transportation Leadership Team.
- Manages all incident response actions and coordinates post-incident corrective actions.
- Tracks all incidents by type and provides monthly reports with analysis of data and trends.
- Tracks daily team performance; provides daily, weekly, and monthly reporting on KPIs and team performance metrics.
- Set team goals and action plans based on business needs, emergent issues, and strategic objectives.
- Builds and leads a strong team that proactively drives the safe execution of duties to trained and documented standards.
- Coordinates monthly safety topics, with supporting communication and training plans.
- Identifies areas for improvement and develops action plans to increase performance.
- Coordinates with all related departments to ensure that all operational goals are met.
- Coordinates corrective action management plan with Transportation Management so that all corrective actions and points assessments are completed within 48 hours of the infraction.
- Coaches team members on performance so that individual, team, and departmental goals are met.
- Conducts corrective action meetings based on team member performance.
- Ensures that team members are up to date and compliant with training, safety initiatives, and safety culture.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a safety-related field preferred but not required.
- 2-4 years of experience in a Safety Manager or similar role.
- 2-4 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or other industry overseeing safety with drivers involved.
- Previous experience in creating safety programs or changing the culture of safety.
- Previous experience managing a team of direct and indirect reports.
- Previous experience W/ Executive level planning
- Must have a valid state-issued Driver License.
- Must be able to pass TSA fingerprinted background check clearance.
- Proven change agent in the culture of safety.
- Must have a strong understanding of OSHA, DOT, and Workers’ Comp laws.
- Must have good knowledge of investigation procedures and root cause analysis.
- Strong ability with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
