Job description

Job Description

Phlux is enabling advanced capabilities in robotics and automation with a new class of innovative 3D sensors. Our mission is to help humans and robots safely coexist and collaborate. Initial applications in industrial robotics are improving the efficiency and safety of human/robot collaboration as robots are increasingly used to augment and promote human workers. Example applications include 3D safeguarding of autonomous mobile robots and industrial robot arms as they work closely with people in factories. Our patented 3D sensing technology provides the robustness, accuracy, and precision needed to make these human/robot interactions safer and more efficient. Applications of our work extend broadly across robotics for other high-reliability use cases in automotive, construction, security, defense, and agriculture.

What Makes Phlux Special

We are a rapidly growing startup. What does that mean for you? Getting into Phlux this early means that you’ll get the chance to truly make an impact, not just by helping to build our team but also the foundations of our product and culture. Your contributions will make an immediate and substantial impact on the company’s roadmap and future. When you work for Phlux, you are helping warehouse and manufacturing workers all over the world stay safe.

Our hybrid work-from-home policy and adjustable working hours give you flexibility for a wonderful work/life balance. Join Phlux and build the career of your dreams.

The Role

As a Perception Software Engineer at Phlux, you will lead the ground-up development of the software that makes sense of the data our sensors produce. Your versatile programming skills will be showcased to develop demo applications, calibration tools, simulators, and application-specific software for a variety of use cases. You will work closely with other engineers and customers to design, implement, and test the customer-facing application software as well as internal development software for our software-defined 3D sensors. We are looking for candidates that work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, take ownership of a concept, and then drive it from prototype to production. Our ideal candidate has a strong first principles engineering background, knows C++, Python, MATLAB, ROS, and has experience applying robotics/vision Perception Software with real-time hardware systems.

Examples of Things You’ll Work On

  • Develop versatile simulation framework for new 3D sensor architectures
  • Develop automated camera calibration software and procedures
  • Innovate novel calibration algorithms for projector-camera calibration
  • Design physical 3D calibration target(s)
  • Simulate/calibrate/fuse sensing suites comprised of 3D sensors, cameras, and IMUs
  • Develop demo applications and proof of concept user interfaces using ROS
  • Ground-up application development for specific robotics use-cases (e.g. robot arms, autonomous mobile robots, assembly lines)
  • Interface with third-party robot platforms such as robot arms, mobile robots, and other sensing hardware.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of significant industry experience and/or publications at venues such as ICRA, RSS, IROS, or CVPR in robotics, geometric computer vision and/or computational imaging
  • Experience calibrating cameras and 3D sensors and modifying/writing associated calibration routines
  • Demonstrated expertise with multi-view computer vision techniques such as stereo imaging, structure from motion, 3D image formation, SLAM
  • Skilled in optimization methods such as non-linear least squares (NLS), Gauss-Newton, bundle adjustment, etc
  • Strong C++/Python/MATLAB programming and software design skills
  • Skilled in ROS
  • Familiarity with Linux/Windows development and target environments
  • B.S. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience

Other Applicable Experience

  • Experience deploying computer vision and robotics algorithms on real-time systems
  • Experience using fundamental robotics tools such as rigid-body motions, forward/inverse kinematics, Kalman filters, and other dynamics/controls concepts
  • Experience with Matlab, Python, OpenCV, PCL, Unreal Engine
  • Experience writing/modifying device drivers and other latency-sensitive software components
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salaries
  • Benefits include paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Stock options
  • Flexible work schedule with work-from-home options

Phlux is an equal opportunity employer and we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment for all employees.
