Program Overview:
- The CommonSpirit Health Nurse Residency Program gives participants the unique opportunity to not only hone their critical thinking skills, but to use evidence-based practices, while ensuring
high-quality, safe care is delivered to everyone in a compassionate environment. Depending on the specialty, the program length varies from 12 to 24 weeks and includes on-unit shifts shadowing trained preceptors, rotations with various units to learn how we all work together as one team, and hands-on classes taught by trained experts in their respective specialties.
Attendance Requirements:
- Attendance for the entire training and clinical rotations are mandatory and must have full availability for the entire 14 week training period. Some clinical rotations are scheduled for both day and night shifts. There is no cost to participants in the program, and participants will be compensated during the program.
The program consists of:
- Classroom and on-line educational presentations.
- Initial follow-up competency validation and development plans
- Clinical rotation under the supervision of qualified preceptors
- Ongoing meetings with the clinical educator, preceptor and others to assure progression and advancement on the continuum from novice to competent performance.
At the completion of the program, the participants will be able to:
- Successfully handle adult patient assignments
- Demonstrate a complete physical and psychosocial assessment on a patient
- Take appropriate problem-solving actions when confronted with a clinical or administrative dilemma
- Work cooperatively and effectively with physicians, family members and other members of the health-care team.
- Our program is facilitated by nurse experts with special emphasis on: clinical skills, critical thinking skills, leadership abilities, communication skills, patient safety, and professional career development.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- RN License in the State of California by 5/12/2023
- Recent graduate of RN program who have not previously worked as nurses or who has less than 12 months professional experience in the role in an acute care setting.
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
