You will find great teamwork here, as this is necessary in providing quality care to our patients.
  • The General Surgery Unit (GSU) is a 47 bed unit specializing in general surgery, vascular surgery, and a wide array of surgical subspecialties (thoracic, urological, gynecological, bariatric, etc.). We also work with an equally varied population of medical patients from the emergency department, local physican offices, and regional hospitals/facilities. If variety is the spice of your life, GSU may be the place for you! What else makes GSU stand out? Scheduling flexibility! Our open weekend scheduling gives staff the opportunity to work around family activities. Working closely with our sister unit the "Neuro Critical Care unit gives staff the opportunity to transition to critical care after obtaining a solid med-surg foundation. Each RN works in combination with one or more PCAs. Our staffing model on day shift typically calls for one nurse assigned to four-five patients and one PCA assigned to either to twelve patients. Staffing rations on the OSU are based on the patient acuity, not strictly by the number of patients assigned to a nurse.
