RN - Employee Health will be working to create a safe, healthy, happy and more stable work environment for the team members at UnityPoint Health – Cedar Rapids. You will do this as part of a team focused on reducing injuries and illness to our team members. The nurse is responsible for the immediate treatment and follow up of team members due to illness and injury. The RN – Employee Health regularly performs a variety of additional duties including, but not limited to, preforming post offer health assessments, periodic health assessments, fit testing, and maintaining employee medical records.

Responsibilities:

Employee Safety

  • Reviews all injury reports providing follow up treatment for team members due to injury or illness.
  • Submits applicable injury claims to third party administrator.
  • Reviews communicable disease and bloodborne pathogen exposures providing appropriate testing, treatment and follow up for all team members, volunteers, and applicable contracted external staff.
  • Educates and counsels team members on safety related issues including policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Helps document employee injury statistics and analyze trends to reduce injuries and increase employee safety.
  • Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting employee health and safety; evaluates compliance on an ongoing basis; remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends course of action to ensure compliance.

Employee Health

  • Helps coordinate employee health campaigns such as annual flu and fit testing clinics.
  • Conducts post offer medical assessments for new team members including ordering labs and providing needed immunizations.
  • Maintains compliance with applicable OSHA programs.
  • Maintains compliance with administration and documentation of applicable healthcare worker required screenings, immunizations, in accordance with UPH policy and governing agencies.
  • Continuously reviews and improves the activities of the employee health and safety programs.


Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:


Bachelor’s Degree
Current Iowa license to practice as a Registered Nurse.


Experience:


  • 2 years of demonstrated progressive leadership experience.
  • Registered Nurse

  • Employee Health and Safety experience
  • Project/Program Management experience
  • Workers’ Compensation and OSHA experience.



License(s)/Certification(s):


CPR Training

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, web browser


Other:


Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
