Common diagnoses/Types of patients
Ortho unit, Hips, Knees, Shoulders, Cervical surgeries, Fractures, Trauma, External fixation, Traction, Osteo Cellulitis, Medical Overflow
Experience or 'Must have' skills
Ortho experience, (does not need to necessarily have fixation or traction experience.)
Are RNs required to titrate drips? no
Common titratable &/or set rate drips
Heparin
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor
yes, 24/7
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios
PCT 1:10 but can be up to 1:18 depending on census and staffing
RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc)
Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, RT manages
Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips?
Yes, Tele Packs
Monitor Techs on separate unit
Nurses do not need to be able to read and interpret tele strips"

12hr shifts
Weekend Requirement
Every third weekend

Floating Requirements
Yes to other MedSurg Units
Travelers are the first to float
Scrub Color/Dress Code
Any scrub color, must look professional
Unit/Department specific orientation
24hrs on the uni
Additional Notes This is a fast paced unit. Also a larger unit square footage wise and the traveler needs to be ok with being constantly up and moving.
