Position Responsibilities:
- Functions as a first or second scrub under the direct supervision of the perioperative RN
- Assisting physicians in surgery by anticipating the need for surgical instruments and supplies
- Gathers appropriate equipment and supplies for each surgical procedure in advance of cases
- Appropriately collects pathology specimens and provides accurate documentation per facility policy
- Responsible for practicing and maintaining sterile technique
- Understands how to use and sterilize surgical instruments
- Takes the lead in the orientation and education of new staff and students, as directed
- Clean and maintain surgical equipment utilizing appropriate precautions
- Inspecting operating rooms for cleanliness and equipment condition; stocking and maintaining rooms with adequate supplies
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all HIPAA rules and regulations
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Surgical Technician Certification is required
- Minimum 2 years of prior surgical technician experience is required
- Knowledge of basic Surgical Technology principles and protocols
- Able to stand, walk, sit, squat, pull, push, and lift over 50 pounds
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds
