Position Responsibilities:

• Functions as a first or second scrub under the direct supervision of the perioperative RN
• Assisting physicians in surgery by anticipating the need for surgical instruments and supplies
• Gathers appropriate equipment and supplies for each surgical procedure in advance of cases
• Appropriately collects pathology specimens and provides accurate documentation per facility policy
• Responsible for practicing and maintaining sterile technique
• Understands how to use and sterilize surgical instruments
• Takes the lead in the orientation and education of new staff and students, as directed
• Clean and maintain surgical equipment utilizing appropriate precautions
• Inspecting operating rooms for cleanliness and equipment condition; stocking and maintaining rooms with adequate supplies
• Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all HIPAA rules and regulations

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Surgical Technician Certification is required
• Minimum 2 years of prior surgical technician experience is required
• Knowledge of basic Surgical Technology principles and protocols
• Able to stand, walk, sit, squat, pull, push, and lift over 50 pounds
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds
