Explains financial requirements to patient and/or responsible party and collects deposits or deductibles. Verifies all insurance benefits; investigates and recommends long-term payment arrangements as required. Screens individuals for eligibility for internal and external assistance programs with the intent to secure a reimbursement mechanism for services rendered which will thereby reduce the self pay receivable.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree
- Two to three years related medical office experience
- General understanding and application of basic accounting principles
- Experience in eligibility and benefit determination
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Accurate data entry skills
- Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization
- Knowledge of GE/IDX or similar computerized billing system
- Medical terminology preferred
