The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Revenue Accountant to join the SMBC finance team at OpenText company. Within this role, you’ll be responsible for calculating deferred revenue, preparing revenue schedules and contributing to system and process improvements. You’ll review partner agreements and collaborate closely with our Sales department to ensure the application of revenue recognition procedures is in accordance with GAAP. In, this role, you’ll partner with the database team to create reporting and reconcile daily activity. In this critical role within our SMBC unit, the Revenue Accountant will complete calculations and management of revenue streams and provide analytical trend analysis to management. Our revenue accounting team is vital to ensure we continue to maintain a highly scalable global revenue management system.
You are great at:
- Review customer agreements to ensure consistent application of revenue recognition policies in accordance with relevant accounting literature and corporate policy.
- Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly close procedures to meet tight deadlines in a timely and accurate manner.
- Complete month-end close deliverables, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis between forecasted revenue and actual results.
- Prepare audit schedules and assist the Company’s external auditors in the revenue function.
- Identify process improvements and implement changes to improve efficiency and scalability, and to mitigate risk.
- Assist and analyze recurring detailed monthly billing which ensures revenue accuracy.
- Understanding of unbilled receivables currently tracked manually.
- Creating efficiencies through systematic reporting.
- Managing revenue accounting for various new sales initiatives and completing many tasks simultaneously, while critically assessing business processes.
What we’re looking for:
- 1-3 years of experience in corporate or public accounting; Revenue accounting experience in software or technology industry strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in accounting and/or finance
- Strong conceptual understanding of GAAP accounting standards
- Experience and knowledge of a quote to cash cycle desired.
- Experience with NetSuite and SAP a plus.
- Assist as a key contributor with a possible implementation and testing of new billing and revenue subledger.
- Display an eagerness to learn and take personal responsibility while assisting team members when needed.
- Proven experience using Excel for analyzing data, including knowledge of pivots and common function.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
