We have an opportunity for a top candidate to join Maryville College's staff as the new Resident Director/Coordinator of Housing Operations & Communications (Live-In Position).

This 12-month, fully benefited position serves as a Resident Director for the Office of Residence Life and a Coordinator Operations and Communications for the division of student affairs. As a Resident Director, this position is responsible for the management of up to two residence halls. As the Coordinator for Operations and Communications this position is responsible for coordinating housing/meal plan assignments and bills, student IDs and vehicle registration, and leading effective communications and social media campaigns to support effective operations in student affairs. This position requires effective planning and project management to coordinate with campus collaborators. A 12-month apartment is provided in one of the residence halls. Pets are allowed with a signed pet agreement and deposit. Supervision responsibilities will include supervising up to 6 student employees (Resident Assistants). This position is a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act.

As part of the Residence Life team, the Resident Director manages up to two residence halls housing approximately 220-275 students. This position requires the incumbent to live on-campus. Included with the position is a semi-furnished apartment (year-long), board plan (August-May), and a parking space.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist with the selection, training, of Resident Assistants (RAs)
  • Provide assigned RAs with hall-specific orientations, staff development training programs
  • Ensure updated and timely communications with RAs
  • Monitor the use and condition of facilities in the residence hall including common areas and student rooms; supervise room inspections and regularly walk the building to assess fire safety and maintenance protocol
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records relative to the residency of each student; maintain student emergency information; coordinate room changes and consolidation
  • Interpret institutional policies and procedures and both serve as a liaison and advocate for students, staff, and judicial board; assess and implement best practices when navigating in hall enforcement with a restorative justice lens
  • Maintain accountability practices among RAs that are equitable and follow through with disciplinary procedures as needed
  • Serve in an on-call rotation as Staff Member on Duty and respond quickly and with the ability to make responsible decisions in emergency situations and communicate with student staff, staff, and emergency service workers.
  • Attend professional staff meetings
  • Serve and coordinate within the conduct process as necessary
  • Coordinate with Camps and Conferences/Summer Housing schedule while working during summer

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise up to 6 Resident Assistants.

RESPONSIBILITIES for Coordinator of Operations and Communications

Summary: This position will coordinate housing assignments, occupancy, and housing management through the current operational system in use. Additionally, this position will coordinate student IDs, vehicle registration, and social media for the division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate and communicate housing assignments and occupancy plans.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of student move-in and move-out.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operational functions related to the Housing and Dining assignment process (i.e.: applications, deposits, billing, contracts, appeals, and refunds) for all residence halls, apartments, and dining plans
  • Oversee department Housing Software, data management, and assist with department training and use of this software when necessary.
  • Design a strategic communications and marketing plan for Student Affairs that is innovative, progressive, and proactive
  • Support crisis communication plans and protocols for Student Affairs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and success of communication vehicles and messages on an ongoing basis utilizing data/analytics

This position is an essential employee for inclement weather events and will be required to report for duty in adverse weather conditions when the College is closed. The position also is required to report on time in situations when the College is on a delayed start and is required to continue working when the College is released early.

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelor's degree, required
  • Master's degree preferred with a specialization in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or closely related field.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Residence Life/Housing experience required.
  • Understanding and ability to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion into position.
  • Experience with student housing operations/conduct/community building preferred.

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Competency and aptitude with operational systems.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency or experience with housing operations systems such as THD, Jenzabar, Slate, Power Campus, etc.
