Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Resident Life Coordinator on the Dahlonega campus. The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) serves as a live-on professional staff member in a residence hall, holds front-line responsibilities in responding to critical incidents, student care/welfare and conduct reports, and all risk management concerns involving their residents. The RLC is directly engaged in building a strong sense of community and points of engagement and support for their residents and maintains a high level of visibility within their residential communities. The RLC manages an assigned residential community ranging in size from 200 - 650 residents. The RLC oversees a staff of 10-25 resident assistants, oversees programming, manages student support cases, serves as a first-level conduct officer, and will serve on departmental and university committees. The RLC participates in Residence Life strategic planning and assessment efforts. The RLC contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds. The RLC partners with multiple offices on campus to play a pivotal role in supporting student retention and success for their residents, including; the Dean of Students Office, Office of Student Integrity, Academic Affairs, Public Safety, Recreation and Wellness, Athletics, and the Office of Student Involvement.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as a live-on Residence Life Coordinator in a residence hall of 200-650 students, managing all student welfare and care concerns, including critical incidents and student safety reports. The RLC oversees community development and creates and leads programs to support cohesion and successful community engagement within their residential community. Maintains a prominent level of visibility within the assigned residence halls. Coordinates health and safety compliance processes and reporting, including fire drills, health and safety checks, and access control issues. Oversees opening/closing of residence halls. Assesses residence hall conditions for maintenance needs and coordinates cleaning associated with move-outs/move-ins across their residence hall(s). Responsible for implementing the residential curriculum, academic initiatives, and services for residential students. Serve as an advisor for the hall council by recruiting students, training student officers/representatives, and managing funds' complete administrative duties promptly, thoroughly, and accurately by established expectations.
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate various student staff positions, which may include but are not limited to graduate assistants, resident assistants, and summer student staff. Directly supervises 10-25 Resident Assistants, including weekly staff meetings with RAs, bi-weekly one-on-one meetings, attending hall programs, advising RAs regarding hall programs, and facilitating program assessment and budget management. Holds RAs accountable for programming, health and safety, and other requirements. Advises aspects of the UNG Residence Hall Association, providing guidance and support on issues affecting residential students. Support, communicate, enforce, and abide by all University and department policies, procedures, and regulations. Serve in an on-call rotation with other staff and provide support during after-hours, breaks, and holidays. Coordinate follow-up with residents involved in incidents and cases of concern. Follows up, supports, and refers students of concern who are experiencing challenges in the residence hall(s) or are in crisis. Assists students with problem-solving, mediation, and crisis management.
  • Participates in Residence Life strategic planning and assessment efforts. Compile weekly and semester reports that highlight the Residence Life story. Assist in developing, preparing, and presenting departmental information and communication for events such as RA meetings, Nighthawk Preview Days, and Orientation. Works with assigned living and learning communities. Partners with various campus departments to engage students in leadership and service learning. Serves on departmental and university committees. Serves as Conduct Conference Officer. Receives and reviews Incident Reports to ensure accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Maintains accurate housing rosters and aids all administrative functions within the residential area. Supports the residence hall front desk, including, but not limited to, supervision, timecard management and approval, key control, access control, essential security support, and dissemination of information. Assesses residence hall conditions for maintenance needs and coordinates cleaning associated with move-outs/move-ins across their residence hall(s). Conducts daily building walk-throughs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • General knowledge of Banner, StarRez, Genetec, Persona, Campus Groups, and Maxient software is preferred. Knowledge of critical issues facing college students.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Two-Three (2-3) years of experience in Residence Life required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field strongly preferred.
