Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing basic Molecular Biology techniques and lab duties independently, advanced lab procedures/duties under general supervision, and more advanced procedures under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory lab members in all advanced procedures including wet lab benchwork (in vitro) and animal work (in vivo, mice).
Job Responsibilities:
      • Lab Duties - Sets up and performs required experiments, procedures, and techniques following established protocols with or without supervision from more senior lab members. Determine, interpret, and document results of experiments by using analytical procedures & techniques. Maintains and updates technical knowledge and is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and properly records results of experiments in lab notebook.
      • Assists in common laboratory maintenance duties for day-to-day operations including making common buffers, drop off/pick up lab glass and plastic ware, monitor laboratory equipment for proper temperature, receiving packages, etc.
      • Communication/Relationship with Others - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of the Medical Center. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtainneeded information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.
      • Judgment/Decision-Making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance asnecessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy.
      • Assist in developing procedures and implementing new protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures as needed.
      • Participates and performs other related duties as required.

This position requries the following skills:
    • Strong oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to think and work independently on basic laboratory tasks & responsibilities.
    • Knowledge of basic math concepts used in the lab setting: calculating dilutions, percentages, ratios, concentrations, metric unit conversions, etc.
    • Experienced using single channel and multi-channel pipettes and pipet-aids.
    • Basic knowledge & experience in foundational Molecular Biology techniques including mammalian cell culture, RT-PCR/PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.
    • Some experience in animal work (mice preferred) and familiar with handling/holding mice.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator). Effective oral and written communication skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to independently create protocols for basic laboratory techniques/procedures.
Experience with Western blot / SDS-PAGE, transfections, cloning, DNA and/or RNA extraction.
Experience in in vivo work with mice, including but not limited to: subcutaneous injections, i.p. injections, oral gavage, survival surgery, tissue and/or organ extraction.
Proactive, fast learner with desire to engage in learning new scientific concepts and techniques.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $46,900.00 - $55,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
