Position Summary
The Geisler lab within the Neuromuscular Division of the Department of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is seeking a highly-motivated individual to fill the position of a Research Technician II. Our lab conducts translational research focusing on mechanisms of axon degeneration, pain and neuro-immune interactions in the peripheral nervous system with the goal to develop effective therapeutic agents that can be translated into relevant treatment strategies for patients. We use a combination of animal models, neuronal cell culture, patient samples, molecular and cell biology, genetics, single cell RNA sequencing and imaging. Experiments for this position will utilize AAV-mediated gene therapy in mouse models of chemotherapy-induced neuropathies.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assists with management of the mouse colony.
  • Assists with preclinical animal model experiments and tissue processing.
  • Performs molecular biology techniques, including western blotting, qPCR and sterile tissue culture.
  • Documents, compiles and analyzes experimental data.
  • Participates in all lab meetings.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.

Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong neuroscience and/or neuroimmunology experience.
  • Proficiency in rodent handling and tissue collection is highly preferred.
  • Experience with cell- and molecular biology techniques (bacterial transformation, plasmid purification, western blot, neuronal cell culture, viral vectors) and/or single cell RNA sequencing is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.

Salary Range
$16.59 - $25.92 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
