Job Description:

Research:

  • Maintaining human pathogens in cell culture and in vivo (in mosquitoes) at biosafety level II (e.g., malaria and dengue virus) and level III (e.g., Zika virus and West Nile virus) containment
  • Dissection of mosquito tissues (e.g., midguts and salivary glands) and forced salivation of mosquitoes infected with human pathogens (e.g., malaria or arboviruses) in a biosafety level II or III environment
  • Facilitating and participating in large-scale experiments to assess the effects of environmental variation on mosquito development, larval survival, adult emergence, longevity, reproduction, and parasite infection
  • Document experimental procedures

Data Analysis/Interpretation:

  • Enter and check data and run basic analyses and data visualization.

Lab Management:

  • Rearing and maintenance of mosquito colonies
  • Restocking and ordering supplies
  • Adhere to and evaluation disease control and laboratory protocols; ensure appropriate training of personnel is up to date
  • Routinely checking if the eye wash stations and showers are working properly, storing and disposing of chemicals, autoclaving biohazardous material, and ensuring sharp containers are disposed of when needed.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Prepare standard stains, media, buffers, and reagents
  • Routine set-up, assembly and / or installation of portions of equipment; may conduct minor troubleshooting or make simple repairs as directed

Personal and Professional Development:

  • Seek out and attend educational seminars and training meetings as required.
  • Continuously maintain all required educational and position qualifications to fulfill job requirements.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

This is a temporary full time, 39 hour per week position with an anticipated end date of April 30, 2025.
