Position Summary
The Vyas laboratory is seeking a talented research laboratory technician to support studies aimed at elucidating mechanisms that underlie gestational programming of cardiovascular system. We are focused on utilizing an ovine model of pregnancy and assessing offspring and maternal outcomes.
This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist investigator, post-doctoral fellows or higher-level technician/manager with ongoing research studies. This may include collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up, maintenance of equipment, and discussion of results with supervisors. General techniques performed include Western blot, RT PCR, microscopy and histology.
- Assist with general lab and animal facility maintenance, organization, and cleaning.
- Maintain files on research and assist with data entry.
- Assist in ordering and recording supplies, reagents and animals for the lab.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

- Able to contribute to a productive and enjoyable lab environment through collaboration and positive social interaction.
- Demonstrated ability to implement laboratory procedures, conduct research, records findings, and perform animal care.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
- Working knowledge of computer software.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

Salary Range
$16.21 - $21.69 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
