Job description

The Biodesign Center for Personalized Diagnostics is seeking a Research Technician to perform biochemical data collection, cell culture, and other laboratory techniques that require initiative and judgement based on knowledge and understanding of scientific theory.

Essential Duties

  • Performing scientific data collection and analyses involving routine biochemical procedures
  • Performing experiments that may include molecular biology to generate mutations and biochemical experiments to heterologously express and purify membrane proteins for various analyses
  • Operate general laboratory equipment such as microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, and analytical balances
  • Write summaries of outcomes, documenting the findings and procedures used
  • Contribute to a safe lab environment by maintaining detailed laboratory records and arranging for waste disposal according to established procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the biochemical principles and techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses.
  • Evidence of effective communication.

Working Environment

  • Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to manage conflict: to interact in a team environment: and to communicate through verbal and written work.
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating; a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distance to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and / or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator.
